Green-White Grass - This is the grass that moves a lot and looks all glittery. There could be a rare Pokemon in this grass, so always be sure to check it.
Ordinary Grass - This type of grass doesn't glitter, it only moves. These patches are good for Chaining because the Pokemon that you are looking for can always be there.
As soon as you use the PokeRadar you should see patches of grass moving. The more the grass shakes, the better the chances of it being a rare Pokemon, including Pokemon exclusive to the PokeRadar. There are three types of grass:
Go to any grassy patch and use the PokeRadar (don't use the bike). If you want to save time you can register the PokeRadar, pressing the Y button to use it.
Start by going to any PokeMart and buying at the least 40 Super Repel. This will help ensure that you'll only encounter non-Sinnoh Pokemon and not wild Pokemon.
To begin a Chain use the PokeRadar and walk onto a patch of grass that moves to start a battle with a wild Pokemon. After the wild Pokemon has fainted or been captured (you cannot run), a Chain will begin. To continue the Chain simply run into the same Pokemon without running into another Pokemon while walking through non-wiggling grass (use Super Repel). To better your chances of running into the same Pokemon, choose a patch of grass that moves in the same manner that is farther away. The higher the Chain you achieve, the better your chances are of running into a Shiny Pokemon.
PokeBalls - Obtained from PokeMarts throughout Sinnoh.
Super Repel - Obtained from PokeMarts throughout Sinnoh.
Trainer Counter - After you've obtained the National Dex, visit Professor Oak at Pal Park and he'll give it to you.
Poke Radar - Obtained from Professor Rowan after completing the National Dex.
In order to Chain Pokemon, you'll need the following:
Chaining is when you track down a single Pokemon, such as Roselia, using the PokeRadar. As mentioned, Chaining Pokemon increases your chances of running into a Shiny Pokemon. It also comes in handy when trying to complete the National Dex, since a fair number of Pokemon are only available through Chaining (as are their evolutions).
After you've obtained the PokeRadar, head to and speak to Professor Oak, who will give you the Trainer Counter.
How do I obtain the Trainer Counter?
The Trainer Counter, application 20 on your , enables you check your three longest PokeRadar Chains along with your current one. All remaining Chains are not shown. The records serve no purpose except to try to beat your personal best.
The PokeRadar is obtained at the same time as the . To obtain the National Dex you must have seen at least 150 Pokemon in your Sinnoh Dex. Now head to Sandgem Town and talk to Professor Rowan. While talking to Professor Rowan, Professor Oak should walk in. After upgrading your Pokedex to the National Dex, Professor Rowan will give you the PokeRadar application.
How do I obtain the PokeRadar?
The PokeRader is simple to use. To use it simply select it from the Key Items pocket of your bag while you're standing in grass. The PokeRadar cannot be used while you're on your bike, however, you can recharge its 50 steps while you're on your bike. Like the Itemfinder, it'll go off when a Pokemon is nearby (it'll always go off). One thing to remember is that when it goes off, some grass should rustle. The more the grass rustles, the more rare the Pokemon. If the grass shines, a Shiny Pokemon will be in there.
The PokeRadar is a new feature introduced in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl - it's like an Itemfinder for Pokemon. The PokeRadar has two main purposes: tracking down and catching Pokemon not in the Sinnoh Dex. The special thing about the PokeRadar is that it's the only way of increasing your chances of encountering a Shiny Pokemon out of all the generations. When using the PokeRadar, it is guaranteed that you'll meet a Pokemon (not just non-Sinnoh Pokemon). Similar to the Vs Seeker, the batteries of the PokeRadar must be fully charged to use it. Charging its batteries is easy, as it only takes fifty steps for the PokeRadar to be fully charged.
